Happy Friday,

How was your week?

Today is Sundar day, a day offered for all Googlers to rest and reset.

Each of us cares for our kids, parents, friends, pets, colleagues and each other ( in no particular order). For me, it's caring for my 3 daughters, a mom who has given me everything, a partner who is everything to me, few but valuable friends, great colleagues, and my modern family.

There are many types of reset: personal, professional, corporate, forced or chosen; all are a gift (granted sometimes in disguise), a chance:

  • acknowledge yourself/your people

  • gives yourself/your people permission to unplug

  • can raise your/their productivity

I used to love giving the afternoon off to my team as a thank-you gift for their grit and resilience in delivering great work under pressure.

Coming to Google has been a professional reset for me.

Leaving a position I loved but no longer allowing me to be my best self as a mother, daughter, partner, friend or sister. Reset takes courage but also a "board of directors" (that's a fancy word for my girls) that cheers you on to take the leap.

In these resets, I've enjoyed reading or rereading Boundary Boss, Mindful Affirmations, Radical Candor, Lean In, Think like a Monk, or The First 90 Days to get a little perspective and start fresh.

But today, I'll be doing one of my favourite things, which will recharge my batteries without fail. I'll spend the day skiing with one of my board directors (Lola).

And even if you're not at Google,

you can treat yourself/your people to a Sundar Day.

Until then

See you next week.
